Our emotions and feelings are linked closely to our bodies. As our emotions change so does our body chemistry. People who are healthy and happy can cope well with whatever life throws at them. However many things that happen in our lives can disrupt our emotional health and lead to feelings of sadness, anxiety or stress which causes our immune system to weaken and makes us more susceptible to illness. These may include divorce, redundancy, bereavement, financial problems, or seemingly positive things such as moving to a new home or having a baby. Sometimes good changes can be as stressful as bad changes.
Medical research has demonstrated that the different types of hormones that are released into our bodies have an impact on our health. Anxiety and stress raise the levels of cortisol and adrenalin in our bodies. In the short term these can give us the energy we need to get out of trouble by pushing our bodies into survival mode. If faced with a dangerous or life threatening situation we produce what is known as “the Fight or Flight Response”. This is a good thing if we are faced with a sabre toothed tiger or some other physical danger. It also enables us to to complete acts of heroism. However continuous high levels of these hormones can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, changes in mood and eating or sleeping patterns. They can have a damaging effect on our immune system as survival is given priority over body repair. This makes us more susceptible to diseases such as cancer and can cause relapses in long term illnesses such as Multiple Sclerosis. Our emotions effect the neurotransmitters in the brain and these in turn trigger physical reactions in other parts of the body. Think of how a moment’s embarrassment can make you blush. Imagine what long-standing damage burning inner feelings can do.
The good news is that feeling good also has an effect on our bodies. Laughter is good for you. It has a good effect on our immune system and can increase the amount of virus fighting T cells and boost the amount of N K cells known as natural killer cells which help us fight disease.
We cannot change what has happened, however we can take steps to reduce stress. There are various ideas and tips listed below that may help you. I also practice various techniques and therapies that may help. We can use various therapies to take the sting out of painful memories, stop all the inner talk you have with your self. Restoring your inner peace and self-esteem will enable to you to move forward and make changes in your life. I will teach you various techniques that you will be able to do for yourself

As a therapist I use a variety of techniques and therapies to support people who are in the process of recovery from an illness or undergoing treatment such as Chemo or Radiotherapy. The aim is to support the client both psychologically and physically.

Despite its name you do not go into a trance. You are wide awake and in control at all times.

Stick and Stones
We all know the phrase “sticks and stones will hurt my bones but words will never hurt me.” If only that were true. Words can hurt. Often we carry them round with us for years and they have a negative impact on our lives.
Think of something that someone has said to you recently that has upset or worried you (for this exercise do not choose something too heavy). Think about where you feel this in your body. You may feel it in your chest or head or somewhere else.. It may feel hard, cold or even hot. Pay attention to the feeling. Give your body permission to let it go. Just let it soften. Imagine it moving within your body and observe where it wants to go. Let it go there. Once the feeling starts to move it will wish to exit your body. This is good just let it go.
Remember energy needs to flow. Just like when water is released from a dam. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It simply gets transformed. Give your body permission to let the energy go.
Give yourself some Energy Nutrition.
Imagine that you are standing in the sunshine and you can feel the energy coming into your body, flowing through it, energising it. Feel how good it is.
You can also receive energy nutrition from the compliments people give you. This is a skill that we often lack as in our culture we are taught to be modest. If someone says that you cooked a fabulous meal you tend to down play it. “It was nothing.” “Just a little something.” “Not much trouble.” Despite the fact it took you hours of planning, shopping and cooking. We should learn to celebrate our achievements and accept compliments that we know are deserved.
By contrast we are only too quick to embrace criticism. What do we do when someone says that your bum looks big? At the first opportunity we rush to the mirror to stare at it from various angles. Then we dwell on it, ask our partner about it, seek our friends opinions. Instead of letting it go we hold on to that comment and feed it. Our reaction cultivates something that does not make us feel good about ourselves and may not even be true!
There are many ways we can learn to focus on the positive (like accepting compliments) whilst letting the negative flow away from us. We will feel so much better.

NLP
(Neuro Linguistic Programming)
Richard Bandler and John Grinder created NLP in the 1970’s. It is based on the work of psychiatrist Dr Milton Erickson and Family Therapist Virginia Satir. NLP helps you to change the way you think so that you can make positive changes in your life. It is effective and achieves results fast.
NLP works with both our conscious and unconscious mind. Our conscious mind is our constant companion when we are awake. It makes judgements provides constant comment and analysis of every situation. It helps us think logically.
Our unconscious mind controls and monitors all our bodily functions that are necessary to sustain life. It is also where all our memories and learning are stored. Many of these learning’s are constantly used so that they become second nature. So some people are very laid back, confident or optimistic. Others are what we call born worriers, except that they are not born that way, it is a behaviour that they have learned through constant practice. As we have been told practice makes perfect.
We work with the five senses sight, sound, touch, smell and taste, which is how understand our world. By changing how we perceive what has happened in our lives using our senses we can create effective changes so that we are in control and live, to quote Oprah Winfrey and Dr Mehmet Oz, our “Best Lives”.

The majority of our fears and phobias are acquired very quickly in response to particular situations. Fears and phobias can be very debilitating. They trap us and can make life hard. For example, fear of lifts makes us choose the hard way instead of the quick easy way to the 10th floor. I can’t it will make me fat. I feel so emotional
No it won’t. It is not the chocolate that will make you fat. It is your thoughts.
When we control our thoughts we control our emotions, our emotions are triggered by our thoughts. How we think about or perceive things releases chemical messengers in our bodies. These chemical messages are very powerful and act instantly. So that we can act instinctively and get out of danger. This is a good thing in the past it kept us from being eaten by Sabre Toothed tigers. Our though patterns are learned and grow stronger just as when we exercise we develop bigger, toned and stronger muscles. This also applies to our thoughts. The more we worry, the more we worry. These thought pathways are so well developed as they are constantly used. It becomes second nature and we don’t question our thoughts. We believe them. Even worse we live in fear of disbelieving them. We hold onto them. This can make us fat. We all experience a lot of self-talk or inner talk. Just as what we hear from the media is not always true and we don’t always believe everything we hear. It may surprise you that not everything you tell yourself is 100% true. We have just got into habits and don’t question ourselves and sometimes we live in the prison of our minds. This has a huge impact on our lives and how we think about food and behave around food.
It does not have to be like this. You can take control. Change the way you think and behave regarding food. This will enable you to make choices. That is the key word here, “your choice”. You don’t have to do anything. You choose. You are no longer imprisoned by old patterns of behaviour or beliefs. You will be free to follow any eating plan that appeals to you and incorporate changes to your eating habits.
The Right Moves
Exercise is an important part of weight loss and getting fit. However it can be so boring. That is why new exercise programmes are invented almost every month. We all start with good intentions. We may join a gym; get the look by buying the clothes and trainers or buy the latest celebrity fitness DVD. Eventually our enthusiasm lessens. We get disheartened, exercise less and eat more.
Why can exercise be so stressful? We are all different We have different life styles and just like shoes one size or one type of exercise does not fit all. It is important to choose the type of exercise that suits you and fits your lifestyle and is something that you enjoy. If you like to be social in your exercise then an exercise class or gym will be right for you. If you hate changing rooms and are self conscious about other people watching you may be happier working out at home using a DVD or computer programme. Think about what type of person you are and what kind of exercise appeals the most to you. If you choose something you feel comfortable with you are more likely to keep going. Our lives vary from day to day therefore it is good to have a few exercise options to choose from so that you can fit them around your circumstances that day. Sometimes you will not be able to make time for exercise in a busy day. If you plan for that and expect it to happen you will not feel a failure and will be able to get back on track more easily. Set yourself realistic goals and choose a few options that you can fit in to your lifestyle.

MEDITATION
Meditation helps reduce stress and has positive effects on our bodies by reducing our heart rate and blood pressure and controlling our breathing. It is also considered to help maintain our brain cells, preserve memory help and prevent depression and anxiety.
Find yourself a quiet room or space. It can be inside or even outside.
Lightly close your eyes focus on your breathing and repeat the same word over and over again such as “OM”.
Repeating the word OM over and over again releases nitrous oxide, which is stored in our sinuses. This has a calming effect on our bodies as nitrous oxide is an aesthetic gas (laughing gas)
It may be helpful to have a little ritual before you start to get you into the right frame of mind. It is a good idea to try one thing for four times in a row. This will help you establish a the habit. Try lighting a candle (I know that it sounds very New Age but remember candles were around long before the New Age Movement). My favourite is to eat a small square of chocolate and let it slowly melt in my mouth.
Music Therapy
Choose four or five music tracks. The first one will reflect your mood. Each subsequent should be more upbeat and than the last .You should find that you feel uplifted even energised.
LISTENING TO YOURSELF
Pain, repeated infections, ulcers or a really sore throat could be your body trying to attract your attention. Your symptoms are signals sent from your organs, glands, immune and nervous systems.
You can improve your health by paying attention to these signals from your body. When you are hungry you eat. When you are tired your body is telling you it is time to relax and sleep. There are times when you chose to ignore what your body is telling you to do and you may stay up all night to meet that deadline or finish a project despite feeling exhausted. This may will have an effect on your health and emotional well-being. When you are aware that your body feels stressed you can choose an action or learn a technique to relieve the stress and boost your immune system.
Don’t always believe what you hear.
Many of us have an inner voice that talks endlessly and we believe what it tells us.
However, what we think does not always reflect the true situation. We can fool ourselves or simply be mistaken but often we allow such thoughts to shape our lives. Such ways of thinking can be hurtful not just to ourselves but also to those around us.
According to Byron Katie we often tell ourselves stories and convince ourselves that something is true or will happen.
Ask yourself these questions and write down the answers
1 - Do I know that this is totally one hundred per cent true? Or that it will happen in the future?
2 - If I do listen or believe these stories how do I feel? What impact does it have on my daily life, relationships and health?
3 – How would I feel if I chose not to believe these stories?
As a trained therapist my role is to act as a sounding board to allow you to hear what your body is telling you and to challenge that inner voice. Therapeutic intervention helps you pick apart truth from fiction, decide on the right course and create a positive response.

MEDICINE
In the 1980 a German Doctor called Dr Hammer, begun
to listen to his patients, he noticed that different patients with the same cancer symptoms had similar emotional
traumas in their lives up
to

before the symptoms appeared. This was the start of an
incredible discovery. He
then went
on to produce a map of the
whole body and it relation to
traumatic life
events and various
diseases. This knowledge
added to over the years by various medical experts
like Dr Anton Bader and forms the basis
of Meta Medicine. .
Meta Medicine provides
the
biological
explanation
for
the
emotional
causes
of
illness.
This
applies
to
both
acute
and
chronic
conditions.
Pain and illness are all part of
a biological programme which
is related to a significant life (emotional) event
or conflict shock. Such
as bereavement, loss of a job, or traumatic experience which was unexpected, isolating, dramatic
and when it happened
the client had no strategy
or inner strength to
cope with it.
Meta Medicine believes that there are two key phases which occur
in disease.This may explain why there are 500 hot and 500 cold diseases as they are part
of the
same
process.

An simple example of this is where you would run around the week before a holiday getting everything ready with packing bags and dealing with work issues prior to departure,
but fall ill on holiday, this is because the symptoms are brought to the forefront
as the previous situation was resolved. Other examples eczema is
